About Focal Areas

Eleven existing departments have been merged into three focal areas:

Counseling and Social Services
Families, Community & Partnerships
Each focal area has shared responsibility for our comprehensive services, both at the school-site level and at the district level. The diagram illustrates the focal areas under our new organizational framework.

Prevention & Intervention Programs and Services (PIPs) - PIPs offers a variety of prevention and intervention programs and services including various research based health and wellness programs and professional development. Our intervention programs assist sites with improving attendance and addressing behavior concerns.
We offer support to sites through the following Student Support Service Staff: Program Administrators, Counselors, Community Health Outreach Workers, School District Nurses, School Health Workers, Site Nutrition Coordinators, Teachers on Special Assignment, Wellness Coordinators and many more.
Located at two Student Support Service Department locations:
1515 Quintara Street and 555 Portola Street.

In an effort to support the academic and socio-emotional needs of our students, the Focus of Counseling and Social Services aims to enhance professional development and support for our on-site student support service staff.
This focal area offers support to sites through the following Student Support Service Staff: Assistant Principals, Counselors, Gear Up Coordinators, Learning Support Professionals, Student Intervention Team, and mental health and counseling interns.
Located at the following Student Support Service Department location: 20 Cook Street.

Families, Communities, and Out-of-School Time Partnerships

Families, Communities, and Out-of-School Time Partnerships: This focus area assists the school sites in supporting students learning during the out of school time hours and access to multi-lingual communication through our translation office. The emphasis is on providing parent/caregiver outreach, building partnerships with community based organizations and city department and ensuring quality after school programs are available for all students.
This focal area offers support to sites through the following Student Support Service Staff: After School District and Site Coordinators, Athletic Commissioner and Coaches, Parent Liaisons, Translation and many more.
Located at two Student Support Service Department locations: 20 Cook Street and 555 Franklin Street.
