SPOTLIGHT

For the past four years, ExCEL After School Program sites have participated in the Revolution in Art and Dance (RAD), a dance and performing arts showcase that brings together students from across the district to show off their hard work after a year of practice and preparation.
This year, RAD took place at Everett Middle School on the evening of February 4th. Students, parents and staff filled the auditorium to the brim for the show. Over twelve schools were represented, and more than 150 students danced the night away to Hip Hop, Salsa, Reggaeton, Chinese Lion Dancing and an abundance of Michael Jackson medleys.
Most importantly this event was entirely youth led. Students from Burton High School served as MCs, students from Everett Middle School coordinated the lights and music, and students from Galileo Elementary, Harvey Milk Elementary and Francisco Middle School acted as press reporters charged with filming the entire event. Absolutely no adults were allowed on stage!
The photos below (by students) are just a small glimpse of the spectacle they put together.
