Global Youth Service Day
Global Youth Service Day, the single largest service event in the world, celebrated its 20th year this April.  Across the globe, millions of youth from over 100 countries contributed to their communities through service.  This year, SHPD ExCEL ASP served as a Lead Agency to oversee Global Youth Service Day efforts in San Francisco.

In San Francisco, almost 1,000 students from over 25 after school programs participated in Global Youth Service Day projects during the week of April 21-27. Youth from kindergarten to high school are demonstrated their leadership and commitment to improve their schools and communities through a variety of projects.

Global Youth Service Day projects included: cleaning up schools and neighborhoods, challenging community members to quit smoking and swearing, educating peers about recycling, creating murals to celebrate the students' communities, raising money for anti-malaria efforts in Africa, and many more.
