Q: In your role as a teacher, what have you done to create a safer climate for LGBTQ youth and families?

As educators and helping professionals, it’s our duty to understand and acknowledge the detrimental impact of homophobia.  We need to do whatever we can to support the youth in our schools to feel safe and comfortable.  It’s vital that we address negative homophobic slurs and teach empathy and tolerance as LGBTQ youth need to be able to explore their gender and sexual identity in a loving and supporting environment.
