There are a great number of students within the San Francisco Unified School District who can benefit from having an additional caring adult presence in their lives. Mentoring for Success is excited you have decided to take on this challenging but incredibly rewarding volunteer commitment. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming training!

All mentor volunteers must go through a background check before they can work directly with a student; the Education Fund will help you through this process. Please read through the items below.

IMPORTANT ITEMS

As a mentor you commit to meeting with your mentee one hour a week for a calendar year, typically during or immediately after school. Reliability is crucial to mentees.

* The Education Fund will have a LiveScan (fingerprinting) service on-site the night of the training. Please bring a valid ID.

* A nurse will also be on-site to administer TB tests.

* Please bring $78 to pay for fingerprints and TB testing. Check or cash are preferred.**

* Training will last until approximately 8:30pm. Light snacks will be provided.

* The Education Fund will take a photo of you the night of the training to be used for your volunteer badge.

* The Education Fund requires that you provide two references, one personal and one professional. You can enter reference names and email addresses directly into the volunteer application you will be sent later.

* The Education Fund must wait for the Dept. of Justice and the FBI to send them the results of your LiveScan. Typically this will take 1-2 weeks and will be the last clearance item they are waiting for.

* Once you have completed the mentor training session and your clearance items have been received a San Francisco Education Fund staff person will call you to discuss a school placement and will facilitate your student match.

**The Education Fund tries to streamline the volunteer clearance process by having both a LiveScan service and a nurse on-site before and during our training sessions. The Education Fund does not make a profit on this charge. Scholarships are available.

All trainings are held at the offices of the San Francisco Education Fund, 2730 Bryant St., 2nd Floor.

Thank you for joining us!
