Presentation Objectives

By the end of the training participants will:

  • Increase knowledge of strategies and resources to support February Physical Activities Awareness Month in the classroom and throughout the school
  • Increase knowledge of strategies and resources to support March Nutrition Education Awareness Month in the classroom and throughout the school
  • Identify ways to support the SFUSD Wellness Policy and Health Education requirements through classroom lessons activities

97% completed the workshop survey (34/35 participants)

All participants either agreed or strongly agreed objectives were met, in addition found it very relevant to his/her job.

The workshop consisted of a Physical Activity Segment and Nutrition Education Segment

Physical Activity Segment

74% of participants reported that they will definitely implement the Energizers Physical Activity Pyramid.

Leigh Rossi (Site Nutrition Coordinator) explains how to use the Energizers, teachers review an Energizer lesson.

Teachers teaching each other lessons from the cards – Energizers (classroom-based physical activities).  Teachers integrate physical activity with academic concepts. 

70% of participants reported that they will definitely implement the Yoga Pretzel Physical Activity book and cards.

48% of participants reported that they will definitely implement a Walking Club Activity at their school with their students

Nutrition Education Segment

75% of participants strongly agreed that the nutrition section of the workshop was relevant to his/her job

70% of participants reported that they will definitely implement healthy food tasting activities

52% of participants reported that they will implement grocery store fieldtrip using the scavenger hunt               

73% of participants reported that they will definitely implement activities such as having a Nutrition Night Event, having a Heart Healthy Valentine’s Day party, Making a Healthy Recipe in class, or Implement a healthy food policy or guidelines in the classroom.
