The California Healthy Kids Survey
(CHKS) and Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) provide information
on the prevalence of behaviors practiced by young people that
put their health at risk.
Both surveys include content on unhealthy dietary
behaviors and physical inactivity. Data results give information
on overall district trends and are used in program planning
and professional development. Both the YRBS and CHKS were
administered in 2003 and results are summarized below.
Both
surveys were again administered in 2004 – 2005 an then again in 2006 - 2007 with results to be made available in 2007-2008. The San Francisco
Unified School District, in cooperation with the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department
of Education, administers the YRBS in grades 6-12, and the
CHKS in grades 5, 7, 9 & 11.
