GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded US Department of Education Program. The primary goal of GEAR UP is to ensure all students in California are prepared to succeed in postsecondary education. The GEAR UP program is built on three broad college access components: post-secondary promotion, early intervention initiatives and professional development for teachers.
- Post-Secondary Promotion
The primary goal of GEAR UP is to ensure all students in California are prepared to succeed in postsecondary education.
- Early Intervention
Recognizing that students need opportunities to acquire the appropriate academic skills, college access information, financial assistance and psychosocial support to succeed, San Francisco Unified School District GEAR UP’s early intervention initiatives encompass a variety of programs, activities and services to help our students not only prepare for college, but enter and succeed.
- Professional Development
San Francisco Unified School District GEAR UP is committed to helping students better prepare for college by offering training and professional development opportunities for teachers and school administrators. Professional development opportunities focus on improving student success through techniques such as curriculum enhancement, vertical teaming, working with special populations, data analysis and academic improvement.
