San Francisco Promise puts higher education within reach of all public school children in San Francisco, including those who would be the first in their family to earn a college degree. The Program, a partnership with Mayor Gavin Newsom and the City and County of San Francisco; San Francisco State University; and San Francisco Unified School District; encourages SF public school children, as early as the sixth grade, to envision a college diploma in their future. If participating students meet eligibility requirements upon high school graduation, they are promised admission to SF State and, if necessary, financial aid.
The promise of a college education is the promise of a bright future for these graduates as well as those who live and work beside them. In the coming years, SF Promise aims to double the number of San Francisco public high school graduates who receive post-secondary education and at the same time, increase the number of college graduates from underrepresented groups. These graduates will ensure that the work force of tomorrow mirrors the diversity of the U.S. population in an increasingly global economy.
