Oral Health Assessment Law Introduced
Beginning January 1, 2007, landmark legislation requiring oral health assessments for children entering public school for the first time (at kindergarten or first grade) became effective. The ultimate goal of this program is to establish a regular source of dental care for every child.
The law states that children entering public school for the first time, in kindergarten or first grade, are to have a dental check-up by May 31st of the first school year. The evaluation must be completed by a licensed dental professional.
