Healthy Choices AmeriCorps Grant Awarded!

Great news to share! School Health Programs, SFCSD, has been awarded a three year grant of $455,000/year from the California Volunteers to launch Healthy Choices AmeriCorps California. Special recognition to Erin Farrell who leads SHP’s Mentoring for Success program and prepared this grant application.

School Health Programs will guide Healthy Choices AmeriCorps Members who will work directly with schools to support the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), school climate activities such as one-to-one and small group mentoring, social emotional learning activities, peacemaking circles, volunteer and family engagement, as well as other structured group activities.

AmeriCorps Members will offer this community service with an emphasis on extra support for the specialized social-emotional needs of vulnerable students. In addition, they will receive extensive training from SFCSD staff and community partners including The San Francisco Education Fund.

As part of SFUSD’s vision for its graduates to live, thrive, and succeed in San Francisco and beyond, School Health Programs will prioritize graduates of SFUSD in the hiring process.
