About the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides opportunities for both individual and group counseling, with a concentration on educating each student in discipline, behavior modification, and respect for self and others.

The main objective of individual and group counseling is to meet SFUSD’s mission and help students build strategies to enhance academic, personal, social, and career development, as well as attain effective communication tools to assist in short- and long- term goals. The Center’s staff assists in the implementation of fulfilling SFUSD’s mission in providing parents and students with the following:

  • A safe and secure environment
  • Education and awareness through resources, presentations, and current data pertaining to childhood development and tools for positive parenting
  • A comfortable and attractive ambiance with opportunities to enhance academic, personal, social and career growth
  • A professional support system encouraging the importance of a college education
  • A reward system for students displaying positive behavior
  • Contact with community resources and personnel to meet the needs of students
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of student services in the department
  • A professional, yet amiable staff that adheres to the ethical standards of the counseling profession, abides by laws, policies, and procedures that govern Pupil Personnel Services
