"Project Summer" at Balboa - VIDEO

Balboa After School was more than thrilled to be able to bring back our second year of Project Summer!

Our first summer was dedicated to forty students building skills in Silk Screening, Wood Working, and Gardening to create a community garden on Cayuga and Seneca. This year, our focus was on STEAM skills, entrepreneurship and becoming "a maker."

Students visited companies like Autodesk and Tech Shop to explore the creativity, innovation, and drive that went into a STEAM career. Students witnessed with their own eyes what they could do with such knowledge and how they could make a positive impact on their ever changing city.

For seven weeks students created and innovated products in 3D Printing, Wood Working and Silk Screening that they then sold at our culminating event, The Project Summer Maker's Market.  It was incredible to see all the work the youth accomplished in such a short time, as well as the support from all community members and their parents.

As staff we felt incredibly lucky to work with such youth and to offer such a program. We can't wait to do it again!
