COHORT SPOTLIGHT 2nd Annual Revolution in Art and Dance

The 2nd Annual Revolution in Art and Dance (RAD) was held at Everett Middle School on January 24, 2008. RAD is a district-wide RAD 08dance and art showcase that gives an opportunity for ExCEL After School Program sites to highlight and share the talent and hard work of their students. In the process, it highlighted the recreation and enrichment programs at our sites, brought out our talented youth and Site Coordinator leadership, and strengthened community based partnerships.

Ten schools participated this year: Aptos Middle School, Bret Harte Elementary, Everett Middle School, Galileo High School, Marina Middle School, Mission High School, Phillip & Sala Burton High School, Roosevelt Middle School, Ulloa Elementary School, Willie L. Brown Elementary School.

Over 150 participating students performed Hip-Hop, Meringue, Breakdance, Samoan Cultural Dance, Stepping, and Lion Dancing.

Student MCs included: Kellen, from Aptos Middle School, and Tammy, from Burton High School, ran the show.Art by Francisco Middle School student emphasizing violence prevention and safety month.Art by Francisco Middle School student emphasizing violence prevention and safety month.

Students provided art that was showcased during the performance.

Student volunteers from the Cesar E. Chavez After School Service Clubs ran a food drive, served as ushers and ticket-takers, and worked the lights and sound system.

Congratulations on a job well done to all of this year's participating students! We would like to extend a special thanks to Ruben Urbina, Site Coordinator at Everett Middle School for hosting this event.
